Poof: A tool for pasting Imgur links
So, in my (admittedly almost non-existent) spare time lately, I’ve been working on a tool that I’ve wanted for quite a while. You see, all the cool kids these days are using ragefaces, reaction gifs, and picture to express themselves. The idea hit a chord with me, and I wanted to get in on the action.
Unfortunately, who has time to curate and memorize a folder of images? And if you want to share one, do you have to just upload it to Imgur every time? My OCD cringed at the thought of a huge, unorganized folder of pictures, and my inner-lazy-programmer scoffed at the idea of manually uploading a picture to Imgur every time I needed to link to an image. So, I took some inspiration from Zach Holman’s Boom, and decided to write Poof.
Poof uses some simple commands to upload all images in your pastes folder to Imgur, tag them, and then quickly retrieve them. For instance, getting the image of Colbert eating popcorn above was simple a matter of typing poof colbert popcorn. It runs from the command line, searches the database for the best match, and automatically copies the Imgur link to your clipboard.
Poof was written in C#, and is currently very much in a beta form. Still, it’s usable enough to not cause any serious errors. If you run into any trouble, you can always just manually edit the database, or delete it and start again from scratch. The source code is available here, and I plan on eventually expanding the idea to have a GUI, as well as some additional features.
